International private health cover

International private medical cover, also known as international health insurance or global health insurance, provides individuals and families with access to private healthcare services worldwide that includes elements such as pregnancy cover, Emergency room treatment and unlimited access to medical care, locally and international.

Access to Private Healthcare: International private medical cover allows policyholders to access private hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities, rather than relying on public healthcare services. This can lead to shorter wait times and more personalized care.

Emergency Room Coverage: It typically includes coverage for emergency medical treatments and visits to private emergency rooms. This is crucial for unexpected medical situations that require immediate attention.

Specialist Care: The insurance often covers consultations and treatments provided by specialists, ensuring that policyholders receive specialized care when needed.

Cancer Coverage: Many international health insurance plans include coverage for cancer treatments, which can be expensive and require specialized care.

Diagnostics: The insurance may cover diagnostic tests and procedures, such as MRI scans, X-rays, and blood tests.

Private Family Doctors: Some plans provide access to private family doctors or general practitioners who can offer primary healthcare services, referrals to specialists, and ongoing medical care.

Global Coverage: One of the key advantages of international private medical cover is its worldwide coverage. Policyholders can receive medical treatment and services in any country, making it ideal for expatriates, frequent travellers, and those living abroad.

Pregnancy and Childbirth: Many international health insurance plans offer coverage for pregnancy, maternity care, and childbirth. This can include prenatal care, delivery, and postnatal care.

It's important to note that these types of cover are on the higher end of private medical insurance and different levels of cover can be offered to meet different budgets.
As a guide, a person aged around 40 looking for a basic level of private international health cover that includes cover for hospitalizations, emergency rooms, Cancer cover and MRI diagnostics, would need to budget about €2,100 per year, and for a cover that offers the above plus unlimited specialists, diagnostics, GP’s (family doctors) the estimate would be €3,060 per year, and the same to include pregnancy, childbirth and birth defects would be €6,210 per year.

International private medical cover is typically purchased by individuals and families who want the flexibility and assurance of receiving high-quality healthcare services, even when they are living or traveling in countries without a comprehensive public healthcare system or when they prefer private medical care.
